报告人简介:

  Carol Robinson holds the Chair of Dr. Lee’s Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. She is recognized for using mass spectrometry to further research into the 3D structure of proteins and their complexes. Carol’s research has attracted international awards and prizes including the Anfinsen Award from the Protein Society, the Biemann Medal from the American Society of Mass Spectrometry, the Davy Medal and the Rosalind Franklin Award from the Royal Society, the HUPO Award for Distinguished Achievement, the Anatrace Award from the American Biophysical Society, the Kaj Lindstr?m-Lang Prize from the Carlsberg Research Center and the Torbern Bergmann Award from the Swedish Chemical Society.  

报告内容简介:

  Two decades after the introduction of electrospray for the analysis of proteins the mass spectra of intact ribosomes have become almost routine. These 2.5 MDa particles remain intact during their flight through the mass spectrometer yielding new information about the stoichiometry of subcomplexes and the effects of modifications. However, knowledge of the intact mass of a protein or complex is only one part of the mass spectrometry information available. Data from the disruption of protein complexes is leading to subunit interaction maps and architectural models. Such models are enhanced by coupling with ion mobility mass spectrometryin which the collision cross-section of a protein complex can be defined. With theadvent of mass spectra of membrane embedded macromolecular complexesnew information and hypotheses are emerging about the effects of lipid binding. Human exploration of the protein has been a long way, in this, and life is closely related to the protein is gradually faded its mysterious and beautiful and unpredictable coat. In this lecture, we will follow Carol Robinson‘s pace, together to trace this wonderful journey.
