Accredited Professors and Chair Professors of ˇ°Cheung Kong Scholar's Programˇ± Recruitment

I . Qualifications

Accredited Professors

•  Have a doctorial degree.

•  For applicants in natural sciences, be younger than 45 years old, engaged in scientific research at the forefront and capable of teaching core courses. For applicants in humanities and social sciences, be younger than 50 years old. The age restriction can be properly loosened for those who have particularly outstanding achievements and talents that are urgently needed by SJTU.

•  Overseas applicants should serve the post of high-level assistant professors and higher positions, or other equivalent positions; Domestic applicants should be full professors or hold equivalent academic titles.

•  Be of great learning and scholarship with established achievements universally acknowledged in scientific research.

•  Have great development potentials and innovative ideas in the disciplinary construction and academic researches, capable of leading the discipline to maintain and supersede the international advanced level.

•  Have strong teamwork coordinating ability and corresponding organization, administration and leadership skills, capable of cultivating young talents, focusing on disciplinary echelon construction and leading teams in tackling difficulties.

•  Be capable of working full-time at least nine months annually .

 

Chair Professors

•  Have a doctorial degree.

•  Work abroad at the forefront of scientific research and serve the post of high-level associate professors and higher positions, or other equivalent positions.

•  Be of great learning and scholarship with significant international influence in disciplinary fields and established achievements universally acknowledged in scientific research.

•  Be capable of working at least three months annually and at least two months on exceptional conditions.

 

II . Payment & Facilities

Accredited Professors

•  An allowance of RMB 100,000 per annum provided by the Cheung Kong Scholar's Program of the Ministry of Education .

•  A supporting allowance of RMB 100,000 (before tax) per annum provided by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

•  Salaries, insurance, medical treatment and welfare provided by SJTU in accordance with relevant policies stipulated by Shanghai Municipality and the nation.

•  Scientific research initiative funds provided by SJTU in accordance with the platform foundation of 985 disciplinary constructions, demands of disciplinary development and the features of different disciplines.

•  A housing allowance of RMB 2500 per month provided by SJTU, with a maximum accumulation of RMB 300,000. Help in settling spouses' employment and children's school or kindergarten entrance.

 

Chair Professors

•  An allowance of RMB 15,000 per month provided by the Cheung Kong Scholar's Program of the Ministry of Education , paid only in terms of actual work time in SJTU, with a maximum accumulation of RMB 100,000 per annum.

•  A supporting allowance of RMB 15,000 (before tax) per month provided by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, paid only in terms of actual work time in SJTU, with a maximum accumulation of RMB 100,000 per annum.

•  Scientific research initiative funds provided by SJTU in accordance with the platform foundation of 985 disciplinary constructions, demands of disciplinary development and the features of different disciplines.

 

III .Responsibilities

Accredited Professors

•  Teach core courses and supervise graduate and doctorial students;

•  Grasp the disciplinary development direction correctly and bring up strategic, creative and prospective research ideas to lead the discipline keeping on the leading edge, maintaining and superseding the international advanced level;

•  Oriented towards China's significant strategic demand and the leading edge of international science and technology; take full initiative in applying and conducting key national research projects; conduct original researches on significant theoretical and practical issues; make great breakthroughs and remarkable achievements.

•  Lead the disciplinary academic echelon construction; establish and lead an innovative team to proceed scientific research in accordance with the disciplinary features and development.

 

Chair Professors

•  Deliver lectures or courses on the academic leading field; supervise or co-supervise graduate and doctorial students.

•  Provide valuable consultations and suggestions concerning the development direction and research focuses; lead the discipline to track the leading edge of international academics.

•  Oriented towards the strategic demand in the nation's development strive and the pioneering areas of the internationally advanced science and technology; actively establish an internationally-leveled innovative research team. Oriented towards China's significant strategic demand and the leading edge of international science and technology; actively establish or take an active part in establishing an innovative team with international advanced level.

IV . Application Procedures and Material Requirements

•  SJTU accepts application materials handed in before May 30 each year and organizes review in June.

•  Materials can be sent to relevant schools, or to the expert office of the HR Department for transfer.

If any difficulties occur during filling the form above-mentioned, materials in other forms are also permissive, including:

•  Personal brief introduction: name, gender, date of birth, schooling, degrees, graduate university, current employer, academic titles, academic field, other titles

•  Major academic concurrent posts

•  Personal resume: major study and work experiences

•  Major academic achievements in the recent 5 years;

•  Major academic contributions, important innovations and their scientific values or social and economic significance

•  Scientific research projects conducted in the recent 5 years

•  Major scientific awards;

•  Representative works, less than 15 academic papers

•  Patent applications and approved patents

•  International exchanges

•  The ever-led academic teams

Attached Materials

•  Duplicates of all the research projects, awards and patents listed in the recommendation form;

•  Duplications of five important innovative academic papers, covers of the corresponding journals and contents;

•  Duplications of the covers of representative works, contents and the front pages of the academic papers listed in the recommendation form.;

•  Certifications of SCI,EI,SSCI,CSSSCI indexed papers and other indexed papers listed in the recommendation form (the original, must be sealed by the relevant indexed institutions);

•  Certifications of major titles in domestic and international academic affiliations

•  Certifications of titles at the international academic conferences, duplications of the invitation letters or notifications of being invited to deliver speeches on the conferences;

•  Other certification materials.

SJTU Accredited Professors Recruitment

In order to strengthen the team construction of high-level talents, SJTU currently recruits accredited professors open to overseas and domestic

The accredited professors are categorized into two types, A and B, including both in natural sciences and in humanities and social sciences. Type A professors are required to work full-time in the university.

SJTU adopts the post-appointing system and sticks to the principles of post-setting in accordance with demands, open recruitments, equal competition, expert evaluation, employment through selecting the best and contract management in order to realize the organic unification of people selection and task performance.

The employment duration of accredited professors in SJTU is 3 years.

•  Enthusiastically serve the People's Republic of China; Possess high scientific morals, rigorous scholarship and social integrity;

•  Have a doctorial degree and work at the teaching forefront.

•  Overseas applicants should ever serve the post of high-level associate professors and higher positions, or other equivalent positions; Domestic applicants should be professors or hold equivalent academic titles.

•  Capable of teaching core courses

•  Be of great learning and scholarship with established achievements universally acknowledged in scientific research.

•  Have great development potentials and innovative ideas in the disciplinary construction and academic researches, capable of leading the discipline to maintain and supersede the international advanced level.

•  Have strong teamwork coordinating ability and corresponding organization, administration and leadership skills, capable of cultivating young talents, focusing on disciplinary echelon construction and leading teams in tackling difficulties.

Type B

•  Enthusiastically serve the People's Republic of China; Possess high scientific morals, rigorous scholarship and social integrity;

•  Work at the forefront of scientific research and serve the post of high-level associate professors and higher positions, or other equivalent positions in famous foreign universities or in their strong disciplines.

•  Be of great learning and scholarship with significant international influence in disciplinary fields and established achievements universally acknowledged in scientific research.

•  Be capable of working at least three months annually and at least two months on exceptional conditions.

Payment & Facilities

Type A

•  A supporting allowance of RMB 100,000 (before tax) per annum provided by SJTU among which RMB 60,000 is paid monthly and the remaining 40,000 is paid at one time after annual review is qualified.

•  Salaries, insurance, medical treatment and welfare provided by SJTU in accordance with relevant national policies.

•  A housing allowance of RMB 2500 per month provided by SJTU, with a maximum accumulation of RMB 300,000.

•  Help in settling spouses' employment and children's school or kindergarten entrance for Type A accredited professors. If their spouses are also working in the university, the housing allowance is provided in accordance with SJTU's relevant policies.

Type B

•  1. A salary of RMB 15,000 per month provided by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, paid only in terms of actual work time in SJTU, with a maximum accumulation of RMB 100,000 per annum (before tax).

•  Round-trip tickets reimbursed and accommodation arranged by SJTU.

Research Fund Support and Others.

•  Scientific research initiative funds provided by SJTU in accordance with the platform foundation of 985 disciplinary constructions, demands of disciplinary development and the features of different disciplines.

•  During the duration of employment, the accredited professor is entitled to the property benefits from his accomplishments in exploring hi-tech, transferring scientific research findings or developing hi-tech industry, in accordance with the ˇ°Science & Technology Department Notification of Regulations on Promoting the Transfer of Scientific and Technological Achievements Transmitted by State Council General Officeˇ± (1999, No. 29) and other relevant regulations.

•  If during the period of employment, an accredited professor is selected into Cheung Kong Scholar's Program, he is entitled to the payment and facilities as a Cheung Kong Scholar and no longer eligible for the payment and facilities of an accredited professor in SJTU.

Applications are accepted from the issue date to mid-October each year. Applicants can submit applications to the HR Department or relevant schools (departments) via Internet, correspondence or fax. Applicants should fill in or provide following materials:
