Continuing Education in Shanghai Jiao Tong University began in 1919. Continuing education with high degree began in 1956. Now it provides training courses for tow-year or three-year college students and for college students pursuing a bachelor's degree. Teaching by correspondence without degrees began in 1974, and from 1983 on, Shang Zhong Road Campus, the Management School, the Continuing Education School and other schools and departments have set up in succession further education training classes, classes with professional certificates, and training classes for self-study examination for higher education. The specialties include Industrial Automation, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Hotel Management, and Computer and Application. Students at school now amount to 10,000.
