Lin Zhongqin, born in December 1957, CPC Member, is now vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Supervisor of Doctoral Candidates. Professor Lin received his Bachelor's degree in Naval Engineering from SJTU in 1982 and received his Ph.D. in Ship Structural Mechanics from SJTU in 1989. Before assuming office as vice president of SJTU, Professor Lin was deputy dean of the School of Mechanical and Power Energy Engineering. His research interests in recent years include quality control and process simulation technologies in auto-body manufacturing and their applications. Professor Lin has chaired projects sponsored by the State 863 Research Program, the National Science Foundation as well as quite a number of key projects funded by Shanghai municipal government. Professor Lin's honors include Second Prize of National Science and Technology Development Award, one of Top Ten Outstanding Youth in Shanghai, First Prize of GM Award for Scientific and Technological Achievement in China, Jiang's Award for Scientific and Technological Achievement, First Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Development Award. He was also elected the top-ten Distinguished Figures in Science & Technology in Shanghai. In 1999, Professor Lin won the title of Model Party member in Shanghai educational institutions and received the Fellowship granted by the State Council for outstanding scholars.  In 2001, Professor Lin won the Outstanding Teacher Award in Shanghai and in the same year he became one of the Professors of “Cheung Kong Scholars Program” sponsored by the Ministry of Education.

   Professor Lin has also played a leading role in numerous professional organizations. He is a member of the standing committee of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society，vice chairman of the Modern Design Methodology Society of Shanghai， Leading CIMS expert for the 863 Project sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology，director of Shanghai Automotive Engineers Society. Professor Lin is also an editorial board member of Journal of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Industrial Engineering and Management，and Computer Integration Systems.

  Vice president Lin is in charge of the construction of scientific research and discipline, “211/985” Projects, and the construction and management of SJTU laboratories.
